WBC August Client Spotlight: Atlantic Portable X-Ray

Bringing Compassionate, Mobile Healthcare to Maryland’s Eastern Shore

When Sara Noyes Aquino founded Atlantic Portable X-Ray in 2021, she wasn’t simply launching a new business—she was solving a problem that many families across the Eastern Shore were experiencing firsthand.

As the first and only portable X-ray provider based on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Atlantic Portable X-Ray delivers state-of-the-art digital imaging directly to patients where they are most comfortable—at home, in nursing facilities, hospice centers, physician offices, sports venues, and other healthcare settings. Serving Worcester, Wicomico, Somerset, Dorchester, and Sussex counties, the company provides same-day dispatch, an average two-hour turnaround for results, and Medicare-credentialed services in both Maryland and Delaware.

A Business Built to Meet a Critical Need

The idea for Atlantic Portable X-Ray began when Sara’s husband was working in medical imaging and her family learned about a successful portable X-ray business in Florida. Recognizing the growing need for healthcare accessibility on the Eastern Shore—and with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic—the timing became impossible to ignore.

Patients were struggling to travel for medical care, while healthcare providers needed faster, more convenient diagnostic services. Sara and her husband realized they could bring high-quality imaging directly to patients, making healthcare more accessible while reducing unnecessary travel and stress.

Launching an innovative medical business during a global pandemic came with enormous challenges. Building relationships, securing specialized equipment, implementing advanced software, and navigating the healthcare industry required persistence and determination. Sara credits those early years with teaching her one of the most valuable lessons in entrepreneurship: keep moving forward, even when the path isn’t easy.

Growing a Business—and a Family

What makes Atlantic Portable X-Ray especially meaningful to Sara is that its story is deeply intertwined with her family’s story.

Just two weeks after launching the business, she welcomed her first son. A second son joined the family in 2025. For years, Sara and her husband balanced multiple jobs while investing everything they could into growing their company before making the leap to working in the business full time.

Today, Atlantic Portable X-Ray has become a true family business known throughout the region as the “Skeleton Family.” Sara’s young son already proudly tells others he wants to work in the family business someday, and even joins his parents as they teach local elementary students about bones and healthy living.

For Sara, those moments represent something larger than business success. They reflect a company built on family values, community service, and a genuine love for the Eastern Shore.

Looking Toward the Future

As Atlantic Portable X-Ray continues to grow, Sara’s vision reaches well beyond portable X-rays.

The company is focused on expanding services for Medicare patients, nursing homes, and assisted living communities while increasing its fleet to serve even more patients throughout the region. Looking ahead, Sara plans to introduce portable ultrasound services and ultimately develop Atlantic Portable into a comprehensive mobile diagnostic healthcare provider offering additional services such as EKGs, laboratory testing, and other portable medical care.

Her goal is simple: make quality healthcare more convenient and accessible for everyone who needs it.
