The Power of Nomination in Building a Stronger Business Community
Why Recognition Matters
In the whirlwind of running a business—meeting deadlines, managing customers, solving problems—it’s easy to forget how much it means to simply be seen. But being recognized for your hard work can be transformative. It fuels confidence, opens doors, and reminds us that we’re not in this alone. That’s why nominating someone for an award isn’t just a kind gesture—it’s a ripple effect of empowerment that can strengthen an entire community.
Each year, our parent organization, Maryland Capital Enterprises (MCE), hosts the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards to shine a light on the entrepreneurs who are building stronger, more vibrant local economies. With generous support from our Premier Sponsor, Pohanka Automotive Group of Salisbury, these awards uplift the stories of hardworking small business owners who inspire, innovate, and lead.
These awards aren’t just about recognition—they’re about representation. Too often, the incredible achievements of small business owners, especially women and entrepreneurs from underserved communities, go unnoticed. This event ensures that their efforts are honored and their journeys celebrated.
When you nominate someone, you’re doing more than filling out a form. You’re saying: I see you. I value what you’re building. You matter to this community. Recognition can have a profound impact—boosting morale, enhancing visibility, and opening new doors. It can validate years of effort and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs watching from the sidelines.
This year’s award categories include:
• Entrepreneur of the Year – celebrating overall excellence in leadership, growth, and vision
• Innovator of the Year – honoring creative thinking and breakthrough ideas
• Workforce Development Champion – recognizing commitment to job creation and employee advancement
Nominations are open now through October 3, and winners will be honored at the MCE Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Banquet on November 6. We invite you to think about the business owners who inspire you—especially those whose dedication often goes unsung—and take a few minutes to lift them up with a nomination.
