Magic, Mission & Meaning: Tell Us About Your Business
Blackwater Apothecary is a metaphysical retail and wholesale business with a shop-front located in Downtown Salisbury. For over four years, we’ve offered handcrafted goods: candles, incense, oils, and more—all made with intention and ethical sourcing. Our top-selling products include our monthly subscription boxes and our house-made incense, which help people connect with ritual, story, and seasonal magic.
Our customers are curious, spiritual, and everyone in between. What I love most is the diversity of people we get to serve and the way the shop has become a space for reflection, empowerment, and connection.
Running a business downtown has done more than grow my brand—it has connected me to a vibrant network of entrepreneurs and fellow dreamers. It taught me how to build not just a business, but a community. Over the years, I have organized multiple community events with Blackwater Apothecary, including our annual Halloween Night Market as well as other vendor and fundraising events. I discovered a love for planning gatherings that bring people together and support local growth. That passion recently led me to a new role as the Events & Outreach Coordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore, where I can do even more good for our community. In April, I was honored to be selected as a winner in Salisbury University’s Philip E. and Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation Shore Hatchery Entrepreneurship Competition! With that support, we are now expanding our wholesale offerings, bringing our handmade products to shops across the country.
The Origin Story
Blackwater Apothecary was born from my love of creating, my love of culture, and my deep connection to spirituality. We got our start right here in Salisbury at the monthly 3rd Friday event, where we began selling our handmade candles and incense. The response was incredible, and from there we quickly grew into a full-service metaphysical shop offering a wide range of spiritually rooted products. We truly owe our beginnings to 3rd Friday—it gave us the chance to share our craft with the community, and we’ve been growing ever since.
Dreams on the Horizon
One of our biggest long-term goals is to fully lean into our wholesale offerings. Our products are already carried in shops across the country, and our goal for the rest of 2025 is to mark off all 50 states. We’re currently in 27 states, with just 23 more to go! As we continue to grow and increase production, we also hope to expand our team. Creating jobs, supporting other small businesses, and sharing a little Blackwater magic across the country is the dream—and we’re well on our way!
Powered by Support: Your MCE & WBC Experience
The real gift from MCE and the Women’s Business Center has been the connections I’ve made through the people involved. Being part of a network of passionate, driven entrepreneurs has been inspiring and motivating. Those relationships have opened doors, sparked ideas, and helped me grow both personally and professionally. Sometimes, the most powerful support is knowing you’re not building your dream alone.

Words of Wisdom for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
Don’t give up. Focus on building real relationships and a strong sense of community. This will carry you further than any marketing trick ever will. Take care of people, and take care of yourself. Learn to set boundaries early, get comfortable being vulnerable and accountable, and don’t be afraid to stand up for what’s right, even when it’s hard. Be willing to sacrifice for what matters—but make sure your sacrifices are in service to your vision, not at the cost of your soul. Being in business isn’t just about what you sell: it’s about how you show up. Lead with heart. Stay rooted in your values. And remember: you are allowed to take up space, speak boldly, and build something powerful.
